Health and Well-being

Youth Alive Zimbabwe recognizes that young people’s health and well being are foundational to their ability to learn, work, participate, and thrive. We work to ensure that young people have access to comprehensive, youth-friendly health services and information that respect their rights and dignity. We improve access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information and services by providing young people with accurate, evidence-based education that empowers them to make informed decisions about their bodies and futures. Through peer education, community outreach, and partnerships with health providers, we ensure that SRH information is accessible, culturally appropriate, and free from judgment. We also advocate for health systems that provide young people with confidential, affordable SRH services without barriers to access. Mental health and psycho-social well being are equally critical. Young people face increasing pressures from economic hardship, social change, and trauma yet mental health services remain out of reach for many. We enhance mental health and psycho-social support by training community workers, establishing counselling services, and creating peer support networks where young people can access help. We also work to reduce stigma around mental health, helping young people recognize that seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness. We strengthen youth-friendly health services by working with clinics and hospitals to ensure they are welcoming, non-judgmental, and responsive to young people’s needs. Our advocacy efforts push for health policies and programs that prioritize youth’s health, increase funding for youth services, and ensure young people have a voice in shaping the health systems that serve them. At Youth Alive Zimbabwe, we believe healthy young people build healthy communities. By investing in youth health and well being today, we invest in Zimbabwe’s future.
